I see that Johnnie Walker, a long time DJ with a reputation to match, has died. Fascinating to remember just how different the world of DJs and radio was back when he started on Radio England in the mid 1960s. And it seems that he worked until near the end.
I knew him moderately well in 1979 when he lived in San Francisco. He was a nice bloke, well in tune with the then-excitement of punk (it was SF so a bit behind the UK timewise), and perhaps a little lost - as we all were. Even though we pretended we weren’t.
There’s got to be a special part of heaven for DJs. Possibly behind a velvet rope.
