Is anyone or does anyone know of, any Calypso Dj’s or collectors based in Scotland?
I wish! Years ago, when I was starting, I had a very helpful mentor in San Francisco by the name of David McBurnie. He was from Trinidad and of Scottish extraction among other things. Knew his soca and calypso and African and so on. Lots of background. Immensely influential to me. Was mostly a radio DJ, a little club work, but most importantly was the “world” buyer at the mighty Leopold’s Records in Berkeley. A very good friend to have.
Just saw that this peculiar looking LP got reissued. Seems like a not very typical thing for Maya Angelou to have done.
