What music have you been buying?

She rocked the last LL…proper good…

Technically haven’t bought this (yet!) as it was only available on 7” at their shows and I didn’t realise. Co-written with Rod Temperton in the early 2000s but only just released. I think this is amazing:

Love this! Got a proper old school Stepper feel to it. The chorus is pure Temperton. Thanks for posting!

Latest in the Enno Velthuys reissue series. Mid-eighties Dutch bedroom produced ambient, he passed away sadly in 2009.

Clips here: Enno Velthuys – Ontmoeting / Landscapes in Thin Air / Different Places (3 LP + 7" in bundle) – Soundohm

In pursuit of my ongoing interest/obsession in the NY disco/post-disco scene, I scored some decent 12’s from a local charity shop this morning.

I got the Windjammer for the b-side (a funky vocoder thing), Crown Heights Affair is a Paradise Garage/Loft classic, Jamaica Girls is the Larry Levan mix (a Garage classic, natch), Carl Anderson is a funky 80s soul remake of a Jackson 5 track.

Kinda Brazilian vibe going on in parts. Lovely Rhodes sound too.

This must be a different charity shop?

SCT on Mare St. They have about 4 large crates, new in. I think I got the pick of the crop though.

Did you buy the Rekid thing? Someone did.

Not me, was leaving it for you. I saw it had gone, its position having been taken by a cheap-looking ragga/dancehall comp which I will definitely not be buying! No Loft classics to be found on that baby…

Must have been Ralph Moore.

I took a picture of the ragga thing, but seem to have deleted it.

This one? Surely it was meant to be called Magnum?

Indeed! As confirmed by the prefix ‘.357’ :upside_down_face:

Edit: John Mouse has to be one of the most innocuous names for a ragga/dancehall artist that I’ve ever come across

He probably wasn’t a Tory.

Well, like all forms of music, dancehall can reflect a wide range of political and social opinion, at least some of which can be socially regressive, violent, homophobic, misogynistic, etc etc…

So at least some are likely to be the ‘T’ word. Let’s hope that John Mouse isn’t!

Fair point. But no excuse.

Hot new shizz from Hugh Mane
