Been on a Maynard Ferguson kick. I’d foolishly assumed he was a white bread jazz pop poser but fuck I was wrong. Sure he had plenty of swings at the pop charts but not far below the surface he was the real deal who pushed jazz both to the boundaries of pop and to the cutting edge. He was also the one who turned Timothy Leary on to LSD so there’s that

Absolutely loved the reissue of Ernie Hood’s “Neighborhoods” and now there’s a second album of previously unreleased music by him. I love it.
